FAQS
-
Sober living homes are voluntary, supportive residences for people in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction. Unlike halfway houses — which are often court-ordered or government-operated — sober living homes like Azul House are private residences where residents choose to live as part of their personal recovery journey. At Azul House, residents are not mandated to be here; they come because they want accountability, brotherhood, and a structured environment to rebuild their lives.
-
Azul House is a men's sober living community in The Woodlands, Texas, designed for adult men who are serious about their recovery from alcohol or substance abuse. We welcome men at any stage of recovery — whether you've recently completed a treatment program, are transitioning out of a rehabilitation center, or simply need a structured, drug-free living environment to maintain your sobriety.
-
There is no fixed length of stay at Azul House. Recovery is a personal journey, and we believe residents should stay as long as they need to build a strong foundation. Most residents stay between 3 and 12 months, though some choose to stay longer. You are welcome here as long as you remain committed to sobriety, follow house rules, and participate in the community.
-
While many of our residents come to us after completing a residential treatment or rehabilitation program, it is not a strict requirement. What is required is a genuine commitment to sobriety and a willingness to follow our house rules, participate in daily AA meetings, and contribute to the community. If you are unsure whether Azul House is the right fit for your situation, contact us and we'll have an honest conversation about your needs.
-
Azul House operates as a private sober living residence, not a licensed clinical treatment facility. We do not provide medical detox or clinical therapy services. What we offer is a safe, structured, and supportive living environment with daily AA meetings, peer accountability, and a community of men committed to sobriety. For medical or clinical treatment needs, we recommend working with a licensed treatment provider alongside your stay with us.
General Questions
-
Yes. Daily AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings are a core part of life at Azul House — 6:30 AM Monday through Friday and 7:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday. We believe consistent meeting attendance is one of the most powerful tools for long-term sobriety. Meetings are 10 minutes away from Azul House, and there is always someone available to share a ride if needed. This structured daily commitment to your program is what sets our community apart from simply renting a room.
-
Our house rules are designed to protect the sobriety and well-being of every resident. The main rules include: zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol on the property, attendance at daily AA meetings, participation in daily household chores, respect for all residents and staff, a curfew policy for new residents, and no guests without prior approval. Full house rules are provided at move-in and reviewed during your intake process.
-
Absolutely — in fact, we encourage it. Having a job builds structure, independence, and self-worth, all of which are essential to lasting recovery. Azul House is located in a quiet neighborhood in The Woodlands with walking distance to local employment opportunities. Many of our residents work nearby while participating in the full recovery program. We help residents build a balanced life, not just maintain sobriety.
-
The safety and sobriety of every resident is our top priority. If a resident relapses, they will be asked to leave the property immediately to protect the community. We handle this situation with compassion — our goal is not to punish, but to maintain a safe, sober environment for everyone. We will follow our relapse protocol as outlined in the Azul House Handbook, and we can help connect the resident with treatment resources to get back on track before returning to sober living.
-
Yes, family visits are allowed and encouraged — a strong support network is a key part of recovery. Visits must be scheduled in advance and approved by the house manager. Visitors are expected to respect the house rules and the recovery environment. We believe family involvement, done the right way, strengthens a resident's commitment to sobriety and long-term success.

Most health insurance plans do not cover sober living homes, as they are residential environments rather than licensed clinical treatment facilities. However, some insurance plans may cover associated services like outpatient therapy or counseling. We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider. Our affordable pricing — starting at $950/month when paid via Zelle — is designed to make recovery accessible without depending on insurance coverage.
